Traffic and Urban Mobility a must for Smart City Ludhiana:LMA : 30-May-2018 : 7:30 PM

An Interactive Session to make Ludhiana as a Smart City was organised by the Ludhiana Management Association today. Kamal Wadhera, Director Smart City Ludhiana and also President LMA emphasised that the Smart City Dream could rise to reality only if all the organs of Government, that is the Local Bodies, Civil Administration and the Police collaborate with the citizens of Ludhiana. He also introduced the LMA Smart City Connect Forum as a platform where citizens could voice their concerns, share suggestions and also make the administration accountable for improving the infrastructure bringing it on par with the leading cities of the nation. Wadhera assured the members that leading professionals, industrialists and citizens have offered LMA of all the financial, logisitical and manpower support for making Ludhiana a Smart City. This however would be possible only if the Administration and the Citizenry work in tandem. He pointed out that though the project would need initiatives in a number of areas, currently 3 critical projects have been taken up due to their overarching impact, these being Traffic Management, Solid Waste Management and Sports Infrastructure.

The role to be played by the Smart City Connect Forum, would be to provide a platform for discussion and brain storming on the successful implementation of these projects, stated Rahul Ahuja, Chairperson of this Forum. Ahuja who is keenly facitlitating the traffic improvement and other civic issues of the city with out of box solutions, explained that to make these projects functional, LMA would assist the three Commissioners i.e The District, Police & Municipal Corporation for holistic transformation of the City.

Police Commissioner Dr.Sukhchain Singh Gill IPS, explained the steps taken by his force in improving the state of traffic in the City. He also highlighted that there would be greater usage of latest technology to prevent blockages and also ensure compliance with the rules. He highlighted that change would happen only if citizens take ownership for their actions.

Municipal Commissioner Jaskiran Singh, IAS assured the House, that the Municipal Corporation was geared to make Ludhiana a Smart City, by using the latest technology, systems and digitisation. He pointed that perhaps the outcomes do not match the targes due to the gaps in technology incuabation and also the resources at disposal.

LMA Vice President S.S. Bhogal proposed a Vote of Thanks and hoped that the joint efforts and intitiatives would ensure that Ludhiana becomes a Model City for Trade, Industry and Habitation. Director Smart City Ludhiana Kamal Wadhera assured the House that LMA would put in all efforts to bring the citizenry, administration and the businessmen on the same page for concerted action.
