COLLEGE TO CORPORATE-A Superhighway or a Bumpy Road : 04-April-2018 : 9:00 AM

LMA Student Forum organised an event Transition from College to Corporate Life for its Student Members, an important subject for the wannabe Managers and CEOs of tomorrow at Guru Nanak Dev Engg. College. This session was mentored by Mr.V.K.Goyal, CEO,SEL Manufacturing Co Ltd. Goyal himself a Management Graduate rose to head the organisation which he joined post campus due to his sheer hard work, perseverance and enthusiasm. He struck immediate rapport with the students, by sharing his real life experiences, challenges and dilemmas. A student believes that the organisations will welcome ,train and develop the individuals, while the harsh reality is that the treatment and learning one gets from the corporate is a function of the executives talent and attitude. He added that while the student anticipates a highway, what confronts him is a pot holed bumpy road, which tests his analytical skills, ability to work in teams and lead from the front.

Goyal emphasised that though there was no Magic Lamp for success, but the behaviours and skills associated with professional success are Curiosity, Persistence, Honesty, Forgiveness, Loyalty to Work, Pursuit for Excellence, Hard Work, Prioritising and finally Never Say Die Attitude. He also advised students to work on these areas on an ongoing basis, as these skills cannot be developed overnight. One would need to set targets, improve, evaluate in each area and keep pursuing excellence for realising ones true potential. Student Members interacted freely with the Mentor, and their queries led to Goyal sharing Nuggets from his life. He concluded by stating that,'Bosses will be the harshest breed of Humans that you will come across, as they would expect hard work and nothing else'.

Mrs. Harpreet Kang, Chairperson of LMA Students Forum shared the activities of the Forum. She also appreciated the efforts put in by the Students, and it was due to their energy and enthusiasm, that the Forum was going from strength to strength.

Dr.Sukhdev Singh, Head, Department of BusinessManagement, GNDEC expressed his gratitude to Mr. V.K.Goyal for sharing the secrets of his Success with the students at the threshold of pursuing careers with organisations.
